FOIA Request to Lincoln Memorial University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 14, 2025.

As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at the Morristown Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Lincoln Memorial University. This request seeks detailed information about the university’s Chinese National students and related policies.

The request, filed under the Tennessee Open Records Act, aims to obtain records that provide insights into several areas concerning Chinese National students at the university. Specifically, we are seeking:

1. Documents or lists showing all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If this information is protected, we request a total count of these students broken down by department.

2. Information regarding scholarships awarded to Chinese National students, including the amount of each scholarship and its source.

3. Details on any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council that are awarded to these students.

4. Policies or procedures implemented by the university to monitor students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, in order to protect intellectual property and other confidential information.

This inquiry is conducted on behalf of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing transparency within governmental institutions through strategic use of Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

We believe that access to these public records is crucial for fulfilling our role as media professionals in holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public. As such, we have requested a fee waiver given our position in disseminating vital information.

We look forward to receiving a response from Lincoln Memorial University and will keep our readers updated on any developments regarding this request.
