Walters State opened up their cross-country season on Friday evening, hosting the Walters State Opener.
The Senators and Lady Senators competed, along with four runners from Roane State.
On the men's side, Brando Resendiz took home the title in the 5K race with a time of 18:56. On the women's side, Emma Hamilton took first place with a time of 24:45.
Finishing in third in the men's race was Walters State's Sam Hall with a 20:55 time while Carl Andes was fourth with a time of 21:27. Rounding out the top-five was Alexander LeBlanc with a time of 21:51.
Other finishers for the Senators were Jesse Ramos (sixth-place) with a time of 22:06, Lucas Greineder (seventh-place) with a time of 22:14 and Caden Chambers (10th-place) with a time of 27:12.
Along with Hamilton on the women's side, Amelia Weeks finished in second place with a time of 25:00 while Ashley Soto Perez was third at 25:38. Rounding out the women were Molly Wright (fifth-place) at 26:31, Julianne Dodson (sixth-place) at 26:36, Emily Wright (seventh-place) at 31:14, Chelsea Kelley (eighth-place) at 31:17 and Rachel Jarnigan (ninth-place) at 35:51.
Walters State had a total of 10 runners make their collegiate debut.
