Lincoln Memorial University Margaret and Moehring Lead @SplittersWVB to Big Sweep in Homecoming Match

The duo of Ketura Margaret and Kristen Moehring propelled Lincoln Memorial to a big sweep over Lenoir-Rhyne (25-14, 25-21, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon at Mary Mars Gym in the Homecoming Match. The Railsplitters (6-12, 4-6 South Atlantic Conference) took down one of the top teams in the conference, as the Bears fell to 12-7 (8-4 SAC) on the season.

Set 1: Lincoln Memorial 25-14

The Railsplitters led wire-to-wire in the opening frame, as an early 6-0 run on Moehring's serve extended the advantage to 11-3 for some breathing room. Sierrah Lemons had a pair of kills during the early scoring spree. Lincoln Memorial later had two 4-point bursts, the first being highlighted by back-to-back-to-back kills by Margaret, Moehring and Maggie Sanderson to put the Railsplitters ahead by 11 points at 16-5. Lemons and Margaret had kills in the latter run to help push the edge to 23-12. Another Margaret kill clinched the set a few points later. Margaret (six kills, four digs) and Moehring (four kills, six digs) contributed on both offense and defense in the opening frame, while Karson Brock added four digs.

Set 2: Lincoln Memorial 25-21

Amanda Lisi's ace put Lincoln Memorial up 2-0 early, but the Bears rallied back to lead by as many as five points at 10-5 and 11-6. The Railsplitters later went on a series of scoring streaks to regain and extend the lead. Four different Lincoln Memorial players (Lemons, Lisi, Moehring and Katie Bedel) had kills as part of a 5-0 run, which also included an ace from MJ Trujillo, to put the Railsplitters up 13-12. After a Lenoir-Rhyne point, Lincoln Memorial responded with a 4-0 spree highlighted by Bedel and Margaret kills to extend the edge to 17-13. Another 4-0 run, this one punctuated by an ace from Bedel, put the Railsplitters up 22-15, and they would cruise the rest of the way to win the set. Margaret (five kills), Moehring (four) and Bedel (four) led the Lincoln Memorial offense in the second frame.

Set 3: Lincoln Memorial 25-22

A tightly contested set featuring 17 ties and seven lead changes, the final period saw both teams stay within two points of each other until the last point, when an attack error from the Bears clinched the set and match for Lincoln Memorial. With Lenoir-Rhyne leading 19-18, the Railsplitters took 7 of the final 10 points to claim the victory, much to the thanks of Moehring who posted three kills during that stretch. Moehring produced five kills and nine digs in the final frame, leading both the Lincoln Memorial offense and defense in those categories.
