Junior goalkeeper Alan Johnson has been named the South Atlantic Conference men's soccer Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman midfielder Christian Hatley has been named the SAC Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Johnson, an Indianapolis native, kept two clean sheets in 1-0 wins over SAC foes Mars Hill (Wednesday) and No. 25 Catawba (Saturday) last week, making 10 saves combined to preserve the shutout wins. He assisted on the lone goal to help beat the Lions on the road and made multiple saves in the final minutes against the Indians in the victory against a nationally ranked opponent.
Hatley, from Nottingham, England, contributed to both goals the Railsplitters scored on the week, including putting one in the back of the net at Mars Hill for the game-winner. He assisted on Ronan O'Mahony's game-winner against Catawba.
This is both Johnson and Hatley's first career conference honor, with Johnson securing the first SAC Defensive Player of the Week award of the season for Lincoln Memorial. Previously, Harry Cooke (Sept. 20) and Peter Majer (Oct. 4) earned Offensive Player of the Week honors.
