The Lincoln Memorial men's volleyball team swept Mount Olive (25-20, 25-17, 25-20) Friday night at Mary Mars Gym in its home opener for the 2023 season. The Railsplitters (2-3) used an efficient .405 hitting percentage to hand the Trojans (1-1) their first loss of the season.

Set 1: Lincoln Memorial 25-20
An ace by Kohl Kutsch and kills from Justin Sharfenaker, Cole Campisano and Shay Spadaro sparked Lincoln Memorial to a 7-2 lead. Two later kills by Spadaro highlighted a 3-0 rally to put the hosts ahead 16-12, but Mount Olive fought back to tie the score at 18-18. The Railsplitters took the next four points thanks to a Campisano kill followed by back-to-back Matthew Gentry aces, and they would cruise to the opening set win from there, clinching it on another Spadaro termination. Campisano paced the Railsplitter offense with five kills in the first frame, while Spadaro added four.

Set 2: Lincoln Memorial 25-17
Lincoln Memorial got out to a 4-1 lead following an ace by Campisano and a kill from Sharfenaker, and it never looked back, leading by at least two points the remainder of the set. Gentry's kill clinched the frame to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage. Gentry posted four kills and an ace in the second set to lead the Railsplitters.

Set 3: Lincoln Memorial 25-20
Back-and-forth with neither side taking more than two points in a row until midway through the set, a personal 3-0 rally from Gentry on a kill and two aces gave the Railsplitters a 17-15 lead. The hosts would clinch the set and match by taking the final three points on terminations from Spadaro and two from Campisano. Lincoln Memorial's offense was led in the final frame by Campisano, who had five kills, and Sharfenaker, who had four.
