Syerra Roges/Softball | Carson-Newman University
For the first time this season and the second time in her career, Carson-Newman sophomore pitcher Syerra Roges (Graysville, Tenn.) has picked up a weekly accolade from the South Atlantic Conference.
Rogers earns Varsity Gems SAC Pitcher of the Week laurels after dishing out a no-hitter in the Eagles' weekend action at the Charger Chillout. The sophomore was 2-0 on the weekend through 9.2 innings. She only allowed three hits and struck out 14. Through the weekend, opposing batters hit just .095 off of her.
She started out by logging a win over Maryville (Mo.). Against the Saints she hurled 4.2 innings of three-hit shutout ball. She struck out five but did walk four.
However, it was against Shorter where Rogers was truly sublime.
In Carson-Newman's 13-0, five-inning, run-rule win over the Hawks, Rogers delivered the program's first no-hitter since Allison Rager did so to Anderson in the opening round of the NCAA Southeast Regional in 2019.
The sophomore pitcher recorded nine strikeouts in five innings of work. Rogers recorded the first five outs of game two via strikeouts before the Hawks actually put a ball into play. Only one ball was hit beyond the infield.
Rogers was also Carson-Newman's last SAC Pitcher of the Week honoree, garnering the award on March 22, 2022.
