Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger of Tennessee’s 1st District has expressed her approval following a U.S. Supreme Court decision regarding parental rights in education. The court ruled that parents have the right to opt their children out of classroom instruction on LGBTQ topics if these teachings conflict with their religious beliefs.
In her statement, Rep. Harshbarger remarked, “Today’s ruling from the U.S. Supreme Court affirms that parents, not the government, have the fundamental right to make decisions consistent with their religious beliefs about the upbringing, education, and welfare of their children.” She further commented on what she perceives as an ongoing issue in classrooms: “For years, we have watched as classrooms became battlegrounds for political and cultural agendas, often at the expense of parents’ voices. This decision sends a clear message: schools exist to educate, not indoctrinate.”
The ruling is expected to set a precedent across the United States concerning educational content and parental choice.
