On 07/25/2022, the Claiborne County Sheriff's Office apprehended a wanted fugitive from justice in the Cumberland Gap area. Mathew Randell Price was arrested and taken into custody after a lengthy standoff with Sheriff’s Office Deputies. Price was wanted on multiple felony warrants from Kentucky and Virginia. Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office Deputies made contact with Price at a residence in the Cumberland Gap area. Price ran into the residence and proceeded to barricade himself in the residence. The Claiborne County Sheriff's Office SRT team was dispatched to the scene and made entry into the residence where Price was located while hiding in the attic. Price was taken into custody and transported to the Claiborne County Jail awaiting extradition. Price is facing multiple charges from Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky. The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the LMU Police Department for their assistance in the apprehension of Price.
