Lincoln Memorial University Women's Bowling Beats No. 1 McKendree, Wins Bearcat Roto Grip Open

The Lincoln Memorial women's bowling team beat No. 1 McKendree and No. 3 seed Mercyhurst on Sunday to win the Bearcat Roto Grip Open.

 

McKendree ranked first in the country in the National Tenpin Coaches Association Preseason Poll, but the No. 24 Railsplitters took down the Bearcats 985-969 in the semifinal match on Sunday before defeating Mercyhurst 1,045-895 in the championship round.

 

Lincoln Memorial averaged 194.0 per game overall to enter Sunday with the No. 4 seed. Haley Powell finished fifth overall individually with a 212.17 average across six games to be named to the All-Tournament Team.

 

Michaela Clardy (209.50 average, 7th individually) and Kayleigh McMullen (199.67, 11th) also finished high in the field to lead the Railsplitters to victory. Sofia Colon Morillo (193.50) and Madison Ferguson (187.67) contributed to the team win as well, with all five bowlers bowling six games on the weekend.

 

Lincoln Memorial finished with a 9-3 record in head-to-head matches on the week, the second-best record to McKendree's 11-1.

 

Mercyhurst's Haley Youker posted the highest average (223.50) for an individual at the invitational, while McKendree's team averaged 202.3 collectively to pace the field.

 

Up next for the Railsplitters is the Track Kat Klash in Houston, Texas on Nov. 4-6, which is the last scheduled tournament of the fall semester for Lincoln Memorial.
