Diana Harshbarger, a U.S. Congress representative from Tennessee's 1st district, has recently shared a series of tweets criticizing the allocation of taxpayer dollars by USAID. The tweets, posted on March 6, 2025, express her concerns over what she perceives as wasteful spending.

In one tweet, Harshbarger highlights a grant of "$2,100,000 to 'assure the quality of services along the prevention-to-care continuum for men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender individuals' in Rwanda". She questions the necessity and impact of such international funding.

Another tweet focuses on a different financial allocation: "$5,000,000 to 'support the creation of a new mechanism to enable timely and strategic deployment of resources to local, grassroots gender justice organizations'". Harshbarger suggests that these funds could be better utilized elsewhere.

The congresswoman also introduces her thread with an overview tweet stating: " THREAD New information about what USAID was spending your taxpayer dollars on. Get ready for a lot of buzz words and disgusting examples of wasteful spending:". This sets the tone for her critical examination of USAID's expenditures.
