On December 12, 2022, the Narcotics Division of the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Office seized $100,574.00 in cash and pills with a street value of $30,000, as a result of an executed search warrant at the Old Russellville Pike residence of Betty Sue Johnson, 63.
Sheriff Chad Mullins, Chief Bob Ellis, members of the Criminal Investigation Division and HCSO patrol assisted in the search warrant.
The search warrant was the result of an ongoing investigation of Johnson and Donald Rickard, 61, who also resides at the residence. Crystal Grooms, 45, who was present at the time of the search, was also arrested.
In addition to the $100,574.00 cash, the seized pills included 169 Opanas, 79 Oxycodones, 11 Clonazepams and 2 Suboxone strips.
Charges on the trio include:Johnson: Possession of Sch. II and IV narcotics for resale; maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are sold; possession of Sch. III narcotics.
Rickard: Possession of Sch. II narcotics for resale; maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are sold.
Grooms: Possession of Sch. III and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff Mullins said he is proud of the Narcotics Division and the work they put into getting the pills off the street and how well the entire HCSO team worked together.
“We take the fight against drugs in Hamblen County very seriously,” Mullins said. “It may be an uphill climb, but the HCSO team is willing to make that climb.”
